USU sustainability club becomes service organization

Tomorrow's Earth Day event at Utah State University has been postponed because of unpredicted weather conditions.

Instead, USU will join the nation in celebrating Earth Day on April 22. Like previously planned, the Sustainability Council will display a giant cardboard fort on the lawn next to the S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney Biology and Natural Resources building.

In addition, there will also be a free concert with local bands and free pizza at the Taggart Student Center Fountain from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Despite the change, Nat Frazer's Introduction to Environmental Science class will still be tabling on different environmental issues at Hillcrest Elementary School tomorrow afternoon according to Ryan Green, a student currently in Frazer's class.

"We'll just be going to them instead of them coming to us," Green said. "It'll be a great learning opportunity for us and the elementary students."

USU's upcoming extravaganza won't be the only local recognition of Earth Day.

"Logan City has some great activities planned to celebrate Earth Day this coming weekend," said Elizabeth Winters, the club director of the Students for Sustainability Club on campus.

Exhibits, crafts, food, prizes and music will be held at the Logan Library this Saturday as a part of Cache Valley's Earth Day. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More information can be found on Logan Library's website.
